Chiropractor, Owner
Joni Smith, D.C.
A Nebraska native, Dr. Joni Smith founded Active Life Family Chiropractic in 2002. She is dedicated to chiropractic wellness care and hopes to help people move naturally, live better, and stay well.
Dr. Smith received her Bachelor’s of Science in Human Biology and Doctor of Chiropractic at Cleveland Chiropractic College. She is a member of the American Chiropractic Association, Nebraska Chiropractic Physicians Association, and the International Chiropractic Association. Dr. Smith has completed 110 hours of Pediatric and Pregnancy care training through ICPA and is certified in Webster Technique. Within the Lincoln community, she is a member of the Chamber and Junior League.
Dr. Smith is not only dedicated to providing her patients the best chiropractic care, but also enjoying her family. She shares a home with her husband and has three beautiful girls: Danielle (17), Avery (16), and Elizabeth (12).

Karen Sloboda, D.C.
Dr. Karen Sloboda is a west Michigan native who has been living the good life and providing chiropractic care to the Lincoln area for the past two years.
She received her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Logan University in Chesterfield, MO in 2017 and her Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI, where she played for the women’s hockey team. She is a member of the NCPA as well as a TeamMate for a local school district.
Dr. Karen utilizes Diversified, Thompson, Activator and several muscle release techniques. She has a passion for treating athletes and families. When Dr. Karen is not in the office, you can find her at the local ice rinks, both coaching and playing hockey. She also enjoys spending time with her dog, Taz, and traveling.

Derek Thurman, D.C.
Dr. Derek Thurman grew up in Papillion and graduated from Papillion LaVista High School. While in high school Derek was a state champion powerlifter and still holds numerous records to this day. After high school he attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri where he majored in biology and was a pitcher on the baseball team.
He then attended Cleveland Chiropractic College in Overland Park, Kansas where got his doctor of chiropractic degree. Dr. Thurman enjoys spending his free time with his two dogs Lila and Toby, playing disc golf with his friends, woodworking, and working out. He is activator certified and can treat a wide variety of complaints including but not limited to musculoskeletal pain, headaches, sciatic pain, vertigo, and much more. Dr. Thurman also has experience treating some of the strongest athletes in the world.

Jered Lemkau, D.C.
Dr. Jered Lemkau grew up in Sutton Nebraska. He attended Wayne State College, where he played rugby and majored in chemistry and health sciences. He then attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa where he got his doctor of chiropractic degree.
Dr. Lemkau utilizes Gonstead, Diversified, Thompson, Activator, and several muscle release techniques. He has a passion for treating athletes, utilizing extremity and rehabilitation techniques. Dr. Lemkau enjoys spending his free time with his dog Sage, playing golf, and working out.
