Joni Smith, D.C.

A Nebraska native, Dr. Joni Smith founded Active Life Family Chiropractic in 2002. She is dedicated to chiropractic wellness care and hopes to help people move naturally, live better, and stay well.

Dr. Smith received her Bachelor’s of Science in Human Biology and Doctor of Chiropractic at Cleveland Chiropractic College. She is a member of the American Chiropractic Association, Nebraska Chiropractic Physicians Association, and the International Chiropractic Association. Dr. Smith has completed 110 hours of Pediatric and Pregnancy care training through ICPA and is certified in Webster Technique. Within the Lincoln community, she is a member of the Chamber and Junior League.

Dr. Smith is not only dedicated to providing her patients the best chiropractic care, but also enjoying her family. She shares a home with her husband and has three beautiful girls: Danielle (17), Avery (16), and Elizabeth (12).

Karen Sloboda, D.C.

Dr. Karen Sloboda is a west Michigan native who has been living the good life and providing chiropractic care to the Lincoln area since 2018.

She received her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Logan University in Chesterfield, MO in 2017 and her Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI, where she played for the women’s hockey team. She is a member of the NCPA as well as a TeamMate for a local school district.

Dr. Karen utilizes Diversified, Thompson, Activator and several muscle release techniques. She has a passion for treating athletes and families. When Dr. Karen is not in the office, you can find her at the local ice rinks, both coaching and playing hockey. She also enjoys spending time with her dog, Taz, and traveling.

Jered Lemkau, D.C.

Dr. Jered Lemkau grew up in Sutton Nebraska. He attended Wayne State College, where he played rugby and majored in chemistry and health sciences. He then attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa where he got his doctor of chiropractic degree.

Megan Drury, D.C.

Dr. Megan Drury was raised in Spalding, Nebraska. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science. She then attended Cleveland University - Kansas City and received her doctor of chiropractic degree.

Jarek Schmidt. D.C.

Dr. Jarek is passionate about helping individuals and families achieve optimal health and performance through personalized chiropractic care. He comes to Active Life with clinical experience serving a diverse patient base, and was especially proud to serve the Spanish-speaking community, ensuring patients felt heard, understood, and empowered in their health journey.

Growing up in north central Missouri, Dr. Jarek played multiple sports and experienced firsthand the benefits of chiropractic care from an early age. Routine adjustments helped him maintain full range of motion, improve athletic performance, and support overall wellness. Seeing how chiropractic care allowed him to stay healthy and perform at his best inspired his desire to pursue the profession.

He was especially influenced by his hometown chiropractor, whose passion for educating and serving the community made a lasting impression. Watching the impact that genuine care and clear communication could have on people's lives motivated Dr. Jarek to create that same positive impact for others.

Dr. Jarek is dedicated to helping patients take control of their health, restore mobility, and live active, fulfilling lives. Whether caring for athletes, families, or individuals seeking wellness care, he strives to provide thoughtful, patient-centered treatment tailored to each person's goals.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Jarek enjoys his passions for sneakers and watches. He is also a proud Creighton alumnus and avid fan of Creighton athletics. He was recently married to his amazing wife, Anayeli, and they look forward to starting a family in the future.
